Mid July - The lillies begin to bloom
This is the week my garden begins to explode in its summer glory--each day brings new blooms. We have had plenty of rain and everything is doing beautifully...this is a view from the road, which shows my main borders.

My arbor is a bit unconventional as I do not have a flowering vine growing over it. Not because I haven't tried--for two years I had a clematis, but this year it died (it never got very tall anyway). This area is very rocky with only about 8 inches of top soil--you cannot get a shovel beyond that point, so my plant choices are limited to shallow root systems. I have had to resort to hanging pots to get some color up high. I have petunias on the very top, but they have not filled out much yet.

July 13, 2004--The deck containers are beginning to fill out. I really like these hanging baskets, which feature gold strawflowers, sweet potato vine, and other trailing foliage.

I plant 60+ containers on my deck each year. (It is quite a large L-shaped deck). I think container gardening is my favorite because I really enjoy puttering around with the arrangements. Click below to see this year's deck
